4 Reasons to Adopt a Mutt on National Mutt Day

Cheryl Phillips

While we like to celebrate this holiday every day, National Mutt Day is formally celebrated twice a year on July 31 and December 2.

The holiday encourages us to embrace, save, and celebrate mixed breed dogs.

Discover the four reasons GG Gorgeous Gal believes you should adopt a mutt on National Mutt Day.

  1. Mutts tend to live longer.

Purebred dogs tend to be prone to genetic disorders and health problems due to inbreeding and artificial selection. By adopting a mutt, you widen the gene pool. This reduces the risk of these issues in mixed breeds!

  1. Mutts are one of a kind, like you.

It’s a tale as old as time—there is no one like you. You have heard it from your parents, grandparents, and loved ones. It’s true! That’s why you deserve a dog unlike any other. Chances are, you won’t find another mixed breed dog exactly like yours.

  1. Mutts are more affordable.

Most of us have a family and bills to pay. Purebred dogs can cost upwards of hundreds to thousands of dollars. Mutt adoption fees are much cheaper. As we mentioned above, many of the genetic disorders are a non-issue with mutts! But like all animals, they will still require routine annual veterinarian visits to make sure they are as healthy as they seem!

  1. By adopting a mutt, you raise awareness for adoption and rescue.

With a one-of-a-kind mixed breed, people will stop you on the street and ask about your dog. This allows for a perfect opportunity to share the benefits of adopting mixed breed dogs and your love for them.

Become an advocate—adopt a mutt on National Mutt Day!
