Former business exec spends hours trapping feral cats

Since 2012, Phillips, a Northville resident, has caught more than 100 “community cats” — the feral animals and abandoned pets that roam neighborhoods and often live in outdoor colonies. Working in conjunction with the Humane Society of Huron Valley’s TNR (trap-neuter-release) program, Phillips often spends weekends trapping cats and transporting them to HSHV where they are spayed or neutered, given rabies vaccinations and are micro-chipped.

August 17 is National Nonprofit Day, which celebrates the positive impact nonprofits have on local communities as well as globally. National Mutt Day is celebrated twice a year on July 31 and December 2. Although we believe in celebrating this holiday every day, National Mutt Day is an opportunity to focus on embracing, saving, and celebrating mixed breed dogs.  The purpose of this important day is to raise awareness of the plight of mixed breed dogs in shelters around the nation.
